“Forced assembly”, the ENABLING TECHNOLOGY of the CLiPS STC, allows for the layering of two polymers using layer multiplication coextrusion techniques. The process of producing layered polymeric films is accomplished through coextrusion of two or three polymers followed by layer multiplication in the melt, here.

Increasing the number of layer multiplication processing units allows for the fabrication of films with thousands of alternating polymer layers. The thickness of these layers has reached nanometer sizes, allowing for unique optical, mechanical, transport, and structure properties in these layered polymer films.
